Submandibular salivary gland

This section is a longitudinal section of a submandibular salivary gland. The gland is a 'mixed' gland as it has both serous (watery) and mucous secretary elements. The serous cells have densely stained granules whilst the mucous producing cells are elongated and have an open, flocculent, appearance. The gland also contains many ducts of various sizes and capillaries.
