Animal fibres and leaf casts

The session involved two topics - the first a very simple technique using clear nail varnish to take casts of the scales on the surface of animal fibres (hair, fur etc). A thin layer of varnish was applied to a glass slide and the fibre stretched across it. The varnish was allowed to dry and then the fibe was removed, thereby leaving an impresion of the fibre surface in the varnish. The second technique was a revisit of a technique producing casts of leaf surfaces using U/V polymerised resin. To view some images from the session, click here
