LMS Meeting Alwoodly Monday 8th August 22 : Rheinberg Illumination.

Despite it being August holidays, and the Tree Surgeons closing the car park, and drowning out conversation in the Hall, we had a successful meeting. Five Members turned up and we had a lot of hands on fun and practice at setting up our microscopes for Rheinberg Interference Contrast. Mike and John brought along various stops and disks which we could try out in our microscope filter holders or on the lamp base. Rheinberg disks need to be position in the correct focal plane so there is a lot of fiddling about for optimal performance. I had to remove my Vickers polarising condenser to check positioning. Stupidly I dropped it straight onto the obscured lamp glass which shattered. Not put off we established that the Rheinberg disk needed 3 to be right at the base. As it happened my condenser had a push in glass cap into which I fitted the disk. This effectively gave me a Rheinberg condenser which works with most Objectives.  John Chandler produced a useful guide he had written a while ago and I have uploaded this to the files section.
